School Lecture
To convey the message of wetland conservation, Hong Kong Wetland Park has prepared various topics of presentation for local schools. Each lecture lasts for 30 ¡V 40 minutes. It will be organised on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from September 2008 to mid-July 2009 (except public holidays). School Lecture is suitable for school assembies, lessons related to natural conservation and extra curricula activities. Topics 1. Wetland Conservation in Hong Kong There are wetlands all over the world and they play an important ecological role. This lecture highlights the function of wetlands, the background and objectives of the Ramsar Convention, an overview on the wetland habitats in Hong Kong and wetland conservation works that we all can participate. 2. Wetlands and Fisheries Fisheries have been developed at wetland for a very long time. Through this lecture, students can learn more about the operation mode of fishpond, Gei Wai and oyster bed. Thus, let them realize the close relationship of the quality of wetland and our health. 3. Rivers and Streams Rivers and streams are wetlands that are important to both human and wildlife. This lecture highlights the functions and threats of river with examples. It also featured local streams and the importance for conserving them. 4. Life in Ponds A diversity of pond creatures are living out there! This lecture illustrates the features of ponds and the importance of conserving them through the introduction of the life of a diverse population of pond animals. 5. Mangrove in Hong Kong Mangroves have special adaptive features to fit into the difficult condition of the intertidal zone, they are widely distributed at tropical and subtropical areas. This lecture introduces the growing environment of mangroves as well as the adaptive features of them. The distribution of Mangrove in Hong Kong and the interesting information about the intertidal animals will also be shared. 6. Learn about Aquatic Plants Aquatic plants are important to human, wildlife and the environment, however, they are always being ignored. Through learning about the plant we consumed in our daily life and their important role in the natural environment, students may realize the importance for conserving the aquatic plants.
