Barrier-free Facilities
Hong Kong Wetland Park is an ecotourism attraction with providing world class conservation, education and tourism facilities to both local and overseas visitors as its mission. With the goal to enable all clients including those with special needs to visit the Park at ease, Hong Kong Wetland Park provides a barrier-free environment to visitors.
Ramps access and escalator
Most of the walkways in the Park are level, while ramp access is provided where necessary, for example to connect the ticket office, exhibition galleries and bird hides. The lift at the Visitor Centre also allows wheelchair users to travel from the atrium to the exhibition galleries on the second floor.
Tactile guide paths
Tactile guide paths and Braille signs are paved along the walkway from the main entrance to the Visitor Centre, as well as inside the Visitor Centre. The tactile paths guide visually impaired visitors to ticket office, souvenir shop, caf, toilets, theatre, exhibition galleries and the outdoor reserve area.
Tactile Maps
Three tactile maps with Braille were installed near the ticket office and Visitor Centre. When visually impaired visitors approach the maps, the infrared sensor will trigger the map's audio music track thus notifying the visitors of its location. The maps also have built-in simple audio narration that can be triggered upon the pressing of a button.
Portable Braille guides
Portable Braille guides are available for loan to needy visitors upon request. When visiting the Park, the visually impaired can hold the Braille guides to familiarize themselves with places of interest of the Park.
Telescopes for wheelchair users
To facilitate wheelchair users to enjoy bird watching, telescopes of suitable heights are available at the park's bird hides and viewing gallery. There are labels in bird hides to designate spaces to give wheelchair users the priority to use these telescopes.
Wheelchair Loan Service
While visitors can bring their own wheelchairs to the Park, a small quantity of wheelchairs are also available at the cloak room for borrowing free of charge.
Disabled washrooms
Disabled washrooms are provided adjacent to five regular toilets in the Park, visitors will not be restrained from using washroom. Clear symbols are posted to show the location of the disabled washrooms.
Car Park
Special parking areas are designated for wheelchair users, giving wheelchair users the priority to use the car park.
Induction Loop System
To facilitate visitors who use hearing aids to listen clearly at various locations of HKWP, inductive loop system has been installed at Information Counter, Ticket Office and Cloak Room.
