Activities for WWD 2008

"Wetlands in My Eyes" Writing Competition

Hong Kong has a variety of wetland habitats, for example, mudflat, oyster farm, gei wai, fishpond, mangrove, wet agricultural land. Wetland not only provides homes to a variety of wildlife, but also provides water, food and important resources to us. The wetland has strong relationship to our health.

The theme of World Wetlands Day 2008 is "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People". Hong Kong Wetland Park of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Yuen Long District School Development Section of Education Bureau, Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union, and Ming Pao Newspapers Limited co-organise a competition named "Wetlands in My Eyes". The competition aims to encourage students to take a closer look to wetland environment, and to express their views on wetland conservation to the health of people through writing. The competition also serves as training for students' logical thinking and their skills on writing.
