Activities for WWD 2008

"Vibrant Wetlands" Papercutting Workshops

Papercutting is a unique traditional Chinese culture with a long history. Scissors and paper were commonly used in papercutting to present lively pictures of scenery, flowers, birds, fishes, insects, as well as daily lives of people. Simple tools will be needed for papercutting and it is easy to learn and handle, and thus it is adopted and widely spread in China.

From October 2007 to February 2008, Hong Kong Wetland Park of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Chinese Arts Papercutting Association and the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers are jointly organising a series of workshops to present the vibrant wetlands. We encourage the appreciation of wetland environment, learn about the plants and wildlife, as well as using wetlands as a topic for papercutting. The event combines both elements of cultural heritage and nature conservation.
