Wetland Model Creation Activity

Hong Kong has a diversity of wetland habitats, for example, river and stream, fishpond, oyster farm, mudflat, gei wai, mangrove, farmland and coral community. These wetlands are homes to a variety of wildlife, as well as an important food source for people. Each type of wetlands has unique characteristics, and they act as important part of the cultural heritage.

Hong Kong Wetland Park of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and Hong Kong Paper Art Association is co-organising the "Wetland Model Creation Activity" in November 2007. The activity will gather 300 students and the public, to produce wetland model collectively in Hong Kong Wetland Park.

Workshop

A workshop on "Learn about Wetlands and Model Creation" will be organised to let participants to familiarise with the features of wetlands habitats. The workshop contains montage and collage exercises, and other source for materials.

Enrollment Fee: Free-of-charge. Participants need to pay for the admission fee to enter Hong Kong Wetland Park for visiting purpose.

Wetland Model Creation Day

Date: 24 November 2007 (Sat)
Time: 10:00 - 16:00
Venue: Forecourt, near entrance of Hong Kong Wetland Park
Enrollment Fee: Free-of-charge

Each participant will receive a card box sized 8 inch (length) x 8 inch (width) x 4 inch (depth). Inside: 6.5 inch (length & width) x 4 inch (depth). Participants are required to create 3-dimentional wetland models, which highlight the features and characters of wetlands, as well as organisms living within wetlands (e.g. mudskippers, gei wai shrimps, crabs, fishes or birds). Participants can demonstrate their personal experience and memory related to this particular habitat.

Exhibition on "Wetland Model Creation Activity"

To celebrate the 2008 World Wetlands Day, an exhibition namely "Wetland Model Creation Activity" is held at Hong Kong Wetland Park from now on till the end of February 2008. The exhibition displays 300 wetland models from the "Wetland Model Creation Activity" held in Hong Kong Wetland Park on 24 November 2007. The models display the vibrant wetland sceneries, as well as present the importance of healthy wetlands to the health of people. Let's come and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the wetlands at the corridor of Viewing Gallery, 1/F of Visitor Centre of Hong Kong Wetland Park.


Highlights - "Wetland Model Creation Activity Day"

The Wetland Model Creation Activity had successfully completed on the 24 November 2007 at the forefront of Hong Kong Wetland Park. On the Activity Day, about 300 students and citizens created models on wetlands. These models presented vibrant sceneries of wetlands as well as the interesting wildlife and plants inhabiting here. Some participants added in element of "recycle" by turning the unused materials into wetland models to present the healthiest parts of wetlands.

Highlights - "Learn about Wetlands and Model Creation Workshop"

Over 40 teachers, students and public joined the "Learn about Wetlands and Model Creation Workshop" at the Hong Kong Wetland Park on 3rd November. Our Wetland Interpreter gave an introduction on different types of wetlands environment and wildlife with an aim to inspire participants' creativity. Hong Kong Paper Art Association brought several wetland models to demonstrate necessary techniques on paper art creation.

Schools or organisations are welcome to apply for the "Wetland Model Creation Activity" to be organised on 24 November 2007 (Saturday).
