Highlights - Bird Race

The 8th Inter-school Bird Race was completed on 30 December 2007. A total of 148 students and teachers from 37 teams participated in the bird race. During the 4.5 hours race time, the participants grasped each second to visit different wetland habitats at and around Hong Kong Wetland Park, including fishponds, tidal ponds, riverside, mangrove, mudflat as well as woodlands to look for as many bird species as possible. The Adjudication Panel immediately reviewed all records taken by
the 37 teams, and it was confirmed that 62 bird species were observed
by the team which got the highest number of species record. The six
winning teams are St. Stephen's Church College, Queen Elizabeth School
Old Students' Association Secondary School, Immanuel Lutheran College
(2 teams), Baptist Wing Lung Secondary School, and S. K. H. Trinity
Church Secondary School. To view more photos, please click here. |

Hong Kong Wetland Park of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation
Department, and Hong Kong Bird Watching Society organised workshops
and field practical sessions on December for participating teams of
the 8th "Inter-school Bird Race". Apart from bird-watching
techniques, students learnt about information on wetland habitats
through a series of activities including lecture, quiz, games and
mock race. During the field practical session, experienced bird watchers
guided students to familiarise the race route and habitat distribution.
Students have to design for a 4.5 hours race route for recording the
highest number of bird species. To view more photos, please click here. |
