The 2nd Storytelling Competition - "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People"

A win-win activity for children, waiting for your participation! Our children will learn about the importance of maintaining the health of wetlands to people. Let them to learn from reading, expression and creativity!

The 2nd Storytelling Competition on "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People" is co-organised by Hong Kong Wetland Park of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Hong Kong Council of Early Childhood Education & Services (HKCECES). It aims to encourage students to express the knowledge on wetland conservation by innovative way. The competition also encourages students to read more and to enhance their understanding on the relationship between wetlands and peoplse. Details of the competition are as follow:

Each school could nominate maximum 1 team (3 students) from each group:

Adjudication and Prizes

Adjudication will be based on story theme, presentation skill, elements of wetland conservation and creativity. The best three will be selected from each category. Each participant will receive a trophy and a gift, and their winning school will receive a trophy.

The Champion of each category will be invited to perform at the World Wetlands Day 2008 Hong Kong Celebration Ceremony (2 February 2008). Winners of each category will be invited to the presentation ceremony to receive prizes.


Highlights - Competition

The Storytelling Competition was completed successfully with joy on 5th and 12th January 2008. Students presented the story related to "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People" with their innovative ideas through drama, singing and speech presentation. Many of the students dressed up as different wetland animals, such as, lovely mudskipper; naughty fiddler crab and funny Black-faced spoonbill. With interesting costumes and brilliant role-play, the performers were greeted with huge applause and cheering from the audiences, and successfully deliver wetland conservation message to them.

Result Announcement

There were 19 teams from Primary schools and 13 teams from Kindergartens took part in the 2nd Storytelling competition on 5th and 12th January 2008. They were rated on 5 criteria: performance, content, conservation message, creativity, skills and voice.

Highlights - Briefing Section

Over 40 teachers from kindergartens and primary schools have joined the Storytelling Competition briefing session on 10th November 2007. To help participants understand more about the theme of "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People", an introductory on wetland, as well as close relationship between our health and the wetland ecosystem was illustrated. Previous storytelling competition winning schools from each group were invited to share their unforgettable experience including watching a video on the competition's highlights.

Schools or organisations are welcome to apply for the coming "The 2nd Storytelling Competition - "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People" to be organised on 5 and 12 January 2008 (Saturday).
