Introduction

World Wetlands Day 2008 - Hong Kong Celebration Programmes

To commemorate the adoption of the Ramsar Convention on 2 February 1971 in the small town of Ramsar in Iran, 2 February every year is marked as the "World Wetlands Day". Different types of educational activities are organised worldwide to highlight the importance of wetlands and to increase the public's awareness of wetland conservation.

The theme of the World Wetlands Day 2008 is "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People". To celebrate this important event, Hong Kong Wetland Park of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has organised a series of activities from October 2007 till February 2008. The aim of the activities is to arouse public awareness on conserving different types of wetlands. HKWP would like to take this opportunity to advocate a positive attitude towards the conservation on wetland resources through the Community, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Programme.
