"World Wetlands Day" commemorates the signing of the "Convention on Wetlands" also called "Ramsar Convention" in Ramsar, Iran on 2 February 1971. Every year of 2 February, contracting parties from all over the world have held a series of educational activities to celebrate this meaningful day, while encouraging the public to aware the importance of wetland conservation and learn more about wetland habitats and wildlife.
To celebrate the coming "World Wetlands Day 2010", Hong Kong Wetland Park of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will organise a series of educational and promotional activities under the theme "Wetlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change" throughout October 2009 to February 2010. This series of events are in line with Ramsar Convention's "Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness (CEPA)" programme to promote a wise use of wetland resources.
