The 10th "Inter-school Bird Race"

On 19 December 2009, Hong Kong Wetland Park of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and Hong Kong Bird Watching Society co-oganised The 10th Inter-school Bird Race. The bird race echoed the theme of "World Wetland Day 2010 - Wetlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change", we aim to encourage students to learn, recognise and observe the environment through watching birds.

The bird race of this year has reached the most participants since before. A total of 200 participants formed 49 teams from 30 secondary schools joined the race. During the 4.5-hours bird recording race, participants tried their best to visit different wetland habitats at the Hong Kong Wetland Park and Tsim Bei Tsui area, including fishponds, tidal ponds, river side, mangrove, mudflat and woodland to record for as many bird species as possible. At the end of the bird race, the result was immediately reviewed by an adjudication panel formed by the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society.

The winners of The 10th Inter-school Bird Race are: Queen Elizabeth School Old Students' Association Secondary School; CUHK FAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School; Cumberland Presbyterian Church Yao Dao Secondary School and Immanuel Lutheran College; Queen Elizabeth School Old Students' Association Secondary School; and Immanuel Lutheran College have two winning teams. The highest record for this year is 73 species of birds.

This bird race facilitated students to gain "other learning experiences", we hope the schools will keep on encourage students to observe the birds and the environment, as well as enjoy watching the nature.
