Wetlands provide resources for different organisms. They provide the daily needs for human, including food, clothes and medicine; and they also link with development of human culture, and even changes of the climate.
 
To encourage student to have a better understanding of wetlands, in order to observe the ecology on wetlands, plants and animals as well as discover the relationship between wetlands and humans, Hong Kong Wetland Park of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department in partnership with Hong Kong Observatory, Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union, Ming Pao Daily News, and life.mingpao.com have jointly organised "The 2nd 'Wetlands in My Eyes' Inter-school News Reporting Contest".
 
The news reporting contest echoes the theme "Wetlands, Biodiversity, and Climate Change" of World Wetlands Day 2010. It encourages students to learn about the effects of climate change on biodiversity and wetlands. In the contest, students are required to prepare a news reporting through collation and analysis of information collected by various methods such as surveys, observation of plants, animals and different habitats, interviews, or collection of information related to climate change. Students can present news articles with pictures or multi-media. In addition, students are required to conduct an educational or propagandistic activity in their schools for at least one week using the information collected. The activity should be included in the "news report".
 
Details of the contest are as follows:
 
Entry Requirement: All secondary schools students in Hong Kong
Mode of Contest: Each group need to submit their report themed "Wetlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change" before 19 December 2009
Group: The contest will be divided into 2 groups:
  1. Article and Photos "News Report" Group
    The report should be between 1,000 to 1,200 words, 5 representative photos should be included.
  2. Audio / Visual "News Report" Group
    3-minutes in maximum, subtitles and dubbings should be included.
No. of participants: Max. of 4 students in a group, which is leaded by a teacher and each school may have 4 participating groups. Each student may enter ONE group only.
Participants' workshop: 10 October 2009 (10:00-12:00, Resource Centre, Hong Kong Wetland Park)
Application deadline: 7 November 2009
Submission deadline: 19 December 2009
Adjudication: 22 December 2009 - mid January 2010
Prize Presentation: Mid January 2010
Result: 6 February 2010
Award: Outstanding teams will be awarded with book coupons and trophy/certificate. The Champion team of each group will be invited for an exchange visit to wetlands in mainland China or overseas.

The 2nd "Wetlands in My Eyes" Inter-school News Reporting Contest which is co-organised by Hong Kong Wetland Park, Hong Kong Observatory, Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union, Ming Pao Daily News and life.mingpao.com, has been successfully completed. We have received 40 entries of news reports on wetlands from 24 schools. Most of the reports echoes the theme "Wetlands, Biodiversity, and Climate Change" of World Wetlands Day 2010. In addition, students had conducted an educational or propagandistic activity in their schools for at least one week using the information collected. Their activities have been included in the news reports.
 
After two rounds of adjudications, the winning entries were selected.
